DNA, or deoxyribonucleic acid, is a molecule that contains the biological instructions for the development, functioning, growth, and reproduction of all known living organisms. It is often referred to as the "molecule of life" because it carries the genetic information needed for cells to divide, grow, and perform their specific functions. Structure of DNA: The structure of DNA was first elucidated by James Watson and Francis Crick in 1953. DNA is composed of two strands that coil around each other to form a double helix. Each strand is made up of smaller units called nucleotides, which are composed of three components: Phosphate Group: A molecule made of phosphorus and oxygen atoms. Deoxyribose Sugar: A five-carbon sugar molecule. Nitrogenous Base: There are four types of nitrogenous bases in DNA: Adenine (A) Thymine (T) Guanine (G) Cytosine (C)
